On the assumption that I will be well, I will be heading to the TFC – Van game on Wednesday with the alright and not-that-bad Jerrad Peters. He's never seen a TFC game/been to BMO and I thought that needed to fixed. This particular match should be interesting, especially with all the ancient recent history between the two squads. However, that aside, I would like to present TFC with this open letter, from a fan to her team:
Dear Toronto FC,
I love you. For the last five years, we have been really good together. We've had our good times and we've certainly had our bad times, but in the end it's worth it. I know others have been let down by you, and therefore let YOU down and strayed, but I won't. To quote every 14 year old girl's facebook profile quoting Marilyn Monroe:
“But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.”
(Actually, the beginning of that quote works much better for you: "I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle.”)
Here's the deal TFC: I can--and will continue to--handle you at your worst, but now I would like to see you at your best. Please. If you could? I never go into a game thinking you'll lose (honest!) and if you do lose, I am always extremely gutted. I've loved a lot that have let me down before, Udinese, the Swiss National Team, Kings of Leon half way through Because of the Times and every album after, however, I've stuck with them (well, except for post-BOTT KoL). This is because I know when there is victory (and there will be victory) it will be that much sweeter. So maybe right now I can't answer, “so what kind of a team is TFC?” and maybe right now you're known more for your fans' antic than for your team's success, but none of that matters.
What matters is where we go from here. Nearly ever game, whether home or away, I try to recruit you new fans. So far it hasn't worked. But I still keep at it, with your next chance coming up on Wednesday; you'll never let me down, so please try to not let Peters down. Especially because I already got him a scarf. And I have no idea where the receipt is.
Thanks guys, I appreciate all that you do.
Hugs, kisses, and hopp,
Sonja Cori Missio.
